M is a film that was ahead of its time. This film is about Hans Beckert, a nefarious child murderer. For a while children have been reported missing in a German city. With the recent news of another missing child, Elsie, police search has become more intense for this child murderer. With the increase intensity of the search, many criminal activities have been hindered because of it. Thus many criminals also join in the hunt for Beckert.
What I liked about this film was that it poses many questions to us. When the criminals found Beckert, he was being tried by a bunch of criminals. I thought that it was a powerful yet scary scene because it raised the question does the end justify the means? Do the criminals have the rights to silence Beckert once and for all so that the children of Germany can once again be safe or should the authorities handle this in a legal way?
Overall I thought that this was a film that posed many challenging questions. It’s a film definitely worth watching. However, one of the problems I have with the film is that there is no definite answer to what happens in the end.
